Blue Sprocket Sound was founded by Chris Jackson and Travis Whitmore in the early days of Lucas Roasting Company’s existence in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Early on in the process of bringing Blue Sprocket Sound into business existence, Chris, Travis and Troy got together and Lucas Roasting Company created a dark-roast coffee blend for them and all their musician guests who would pass through their doors to record albums.
On the morning of October 17, 2020, a natural gas explosion occurred at the plaza where Blue Sprocket Sound recording studio was housed in Harrisonburg, VA. The resulting fire destroyed everything in the plaza including the entire recording studio, seen completely engulfed in this picture (photo credit Colleen Shamburg via WHSV).
We at Lucas Roasting Company have brought this coffee back for a period of time to send profits from the sales of this coffee to Chris and Travis in the time it will take to look at once again beginning their business from the ground up and rebuilding. COVID-19 has already hit the music industry very hard, but to have a beloved music studio also taken away from the Harrisonburg, VA, community at a time when artists were still recording and trying to get albums out there…well, there’s just never a good time for a catastrophe like the one that has occurred.
This French roast blend is rich and robust with loads of bittersweet chocolate notes. Brazilian and Sumatran coffees combine to give this a solid lasting dark roast flavor with smoky hints that will keep you smiling long after the cup is gone.
Lastly, a GoFundMe was set up for this business, and you can check that out at this link in case you care to give directly: https://www.gofundme.com/f/blue-sprocket-and-hometown-music-explosion-relief
